Boy on a Buffalo

It is trapping season through February in Virginia.  Drew has full blown trapping fever.  He has raccoon hides drying in the shed, fox urine and coyote scent on my counter, paraffin wax and brown dye in a pot on my stove, and anchovies on the grocery list.  He keeps a vigilant schedule of checking and setting traps... camouflaging his scent,  digging trenches, scouting rabbit holes, experimenting with bait, and war whooping through the woods if successful.
Caught:  2 raccoons, 4 possum, a vulture, and a snake.
Wishlist:  fox, coyote, and rabbit.
If I could have written a letter to myself 15 years ago, I would have said this:
Get used to dead animals.
Get used to sympathy feeding a trapped coon for a few hours.
Get used to washing camo.
Get used to sweeping up mud tracks.
Get used to snakes, bugs, and critters.

But, Joni, don't let it scare you.
It will be the best times of your life and it will pass in an instant.
You were made and created to be a mother to boys.
Be there.
Don't gross out.
Take pictures.
You won't regret the path that has been laid out before you.

Praise be to the LORD,
who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
We have escaped like a bird
   from the fowler’s snare;
the snare has been broken,
   and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 124: 6-8

Nate and I feel like this artist could narrate Drew's life...

Once again...proof that God knows exactly what He's doing...I threw up in my mouth just a little bit looking at the pictures...I'm not sure what is in that pan on the stove, but I could almost smell all those scents and dead animals as I was reading...God put us together because He knew I would have a little boy named Jude who would want to do little boy things and his mommy would never let him...but because you have let me know that's what boys do...I am a little closer to being ok with these things!! (sorry, Jude...not sure I'm ready to go ALL the way yet)

Joni, I laughed harder than I have in several months after seeing that video ! It seriously IS DREW!
And on a more serious note , it is AMAZING how you can take everyday events and find our Lord's presence . We know He is in ALL things but you have a special gift from HIM to help others see such...Kristi
