Sewing Room

Because my sewing list has 25+ dresses on it, I considered doing a blogging break, BUT, who am I kidding? I wouldn't be able to stay away. I completely understand when people take breaks or unplug, ahem Big Mama, TownGirl, and Joyful Living, but part of me thinks, "Hey what about me, a faithful reader? I need your inspiration!" So in order to not disappoint my faithful 15 readers, I'll give a few glimpses of where I will be spending my month.

I love my sewing room, not because of what it looks like, but because of what I can accomplish in it. It is the one place where I feel at home and confident. I stumble around trying to bake in the kitchen, laundry is my downfall, ALL of my closets are unorganized, and I despise being outside in the flower beds, especially pulling weeds, but I love to sew.

The only presentable corner today is the right side of the room. Notice the two completed dresses. Apron in window is a gift from my sister.

I like to surround myself with things and people I love while I'm sewing. The pictures are gifts from Nate. Pottery Barn scissors from my sister. Camper plaque from Regina. Scarves, tickets, nurse, and shoe bag from Goodwill. One evening, Drew came to me with a pale face and said, "Mom, I am SOO sorry. I broke something and I'm afraid that you're going to be sad." I couldn't imagine how bad it must be for him to act like that, so I hugged him and said, "Drew, whatever it is, I appreciate that you are apologizing and that means more to me than any of my stuff. What is it?" He went into this long winded story about losing a Tech Deck behind my dresser and needing something to help dig it out so he grabbed my wood scissors. While digging, the handle snapped. My mouth dropped. My scissors? What about a broom handle or baseball bat? I just bit my lip and said, "How come you didn't feel this bad when you wrote Football Rox on your bedroom door or when spilling a whole can of pop on the couch or spraying my wood porch floor with red paint while redoing your skateboard? Next time, please use a yardstick." Nate then did his magic and my scissors are now back in their proper place.

This is my list. I am not overwhelmed. I repeat... I am not overwhelmed.

My sewing chair is fun, but the blasted wheels jam when they get too much thread in them. I spent 30 minutes unscrewing each wheel and getting all the junk out.

Unwanted guest. I found this snapping turtle trucking through the sewing room headed for the door. What really creeps me out is he crawled out of the cage, out Drew's bedroom, down the stairs, through the kitchen and office, then made it to the sewing room. Had I known he was this close to my toes, I definitely would have had shoes on. The large wad of dust on top of his shell makes me laugh every time I look at it.

Because of my love of sewing, I have to recommend A Woman's Heart workbook by Beth Moore (surprise!), which is about the Israelites building the tabernacle. When I read and studied the priest's garments in Exodus 39 I could finally picture myself as part of the story. I saw myself as an Israelite girl with my hand in the air like a kindergartner trying to get Moses's attention, "Ooh ooh pick me, pick me, I want to sew Aaron's garment."

And they made upon the hems of the robe pomegranates of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and twined linen. And they made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates upon the hem of the robe, round about between the pomegranates; a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, round about the hem of the robe to minister in; as the LORD commanded Moses. And they made coats of fine linen of woven work for Aaron, and for his sons, and a mitre of fine linen, and goodly bonnets of fine lined, and lined breeches of fine twisted linen, and a girdle of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, of needlework; as the LORD commanded Moses. And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote it upon a writing, like to the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD. And they tied unto it a lace of blue, to fasten it on high upon the mitre; as the LORD commanded Moses.

I'll never look at pomegranates and fine linen the same again.
Have a great day, I'll be sewing pomegranates.
I mean dresses.

I'm so in love with your sewing room! I want to see the rest of it when you want to share! Your sister has told me I would covet your sewing room. Sigh, 'in whatsoever state I'm in...' be content Jill!
I should post some pictures of what my 'sewing room' looks like right now, but I'm afraid it is rivaling those email pics I sent you awhile back. Without the cigarettes and trash of course!
Don't stress about the sewing, one project at a time. yeah yeah, I'm a good one to talk after what my last 2 days have been like:-)
Have a great day...sewing!

I also love your sewing room I'm always telling Thane about the great durable floor.

And the old Testament i really Love that it ALL points to Christ. And we nowadays are all priests of God’s {HOLINESS TO THE LORD} with Christ as the high priest!! Praise Him.
I really enjoyed this post also! oh btw My unplugging was extended longer than I was thinking [computer crash] I think God thought I needed more resting time!

Or maybe He thought you needed to spend some more time with the new babies...
